if you are mainly using long jigs i suggest a 6ft rod with a medium action, if you mainly use short jigs then a 5ft or a 5ft6in rod is ideal with a fast action to enable you to work the jig fast.

I suggest you spend a bit more and get a good rod right away. The rod plays a very BIG role in jigging.  A cheap rod will just make it harder to fish, and put you off jigging quicker.  I also suggest Fuji or equivalent guides.

These are some Rods i can get and might be intereting for you.

Artico V.J. Mediterraneo 100-200g 1.80mt 2pc (butt joint) Titanium Guides (not Fuji)

Artico VERTICAL JIGGING 60-200g 1.90mt 1pc Fuji Guides ( SiC or Alconite your choice)

Artico FAST Jigging 60-200g 1,60m 1pc Fuji Guides ( SiC or Alconite )

I will get you the prices as soon as I know what the shipping costs are.
There is also a huge range of some serious surf casting rords for those interested.
