Hi camkev, I think I had sent you the link you're referring to.... But what I'd like is to have a pattern with regards to lengths of 2 high and 2 flat lines (which should be long and which short) - and whether anyone would suggest having 1 or 2 of them weighted.
I'd rather be fishing.....

camkev

upps sorry i didn't mention you regarding the link ;)

benri we usually fish in a 'V' pattern if u are going to add weights to any line as well as different types of lures u have to be a bit careful when trolling 4 lines.
Make sure u know which type of lure drags water more than another EG if its a flat head it drags water if its a bullet type than its a fast one. When u add weight thats the one that drags most,  put a flat nose lure next to it  then a less drag lure and the fastest lure as last. When u want to turn keep the weighted lure on the inside of the turn (urn on it) and try not to make sharp turns. May u hear all 4 reels go together,

Thanks Shanook. I was thinking of putting the high ones further away (20 and 25 fathoms out) with say a rapala deep diver and the corner ones - one flat lined and the other with a 200g weight further inward (16 & 20 Fathoms).
Does it make sense or am I inviting trouble?

Can you please let me know from where i can buy momoi diamond fishing line here in Malta?

Thanks,
Stevegb

You can't Steve, however I have managed to deal with a source in the US where we can get it at very good prices for the forum. Ideally we buy in bulk as mono is always cheaper on a bulk spool, but also available on 1000 yard spools though I advise 3000 yard spools for half the price per yard and you have for more than one reel/when you need to respool again.

Will post some info shortly.

SteveGB

Thanks Skip,  Yes I intend to buy a spool, have found on internet but if you have a better contact will appreciate the information.

Also i have another question maybe someone can help me out. I have recently bought a conventional trolling reel (will use for Albacore) and it takes 320 yards of 30 Lb line. Now I am used to having capacity in Meters/Diameter on my previous reels. There are many different 30Lb lines with different diameters according to the brand etc etc. So what is the basic/normal diameter for a 30 Lb line? I mean if I can put a line which can take more than 30Lb but with the same diameter of a 30Lb line it would be better as I can still keep 320 yards on and have more strength. Hope you understand why im confused, thanks

0.52mm - 0.59mm is around the norm. Basic 30lbs mono is around 0.52, some of the higher end stuff with extra coatings etc might be closer to 0.59mm.

You can either consider using 20lbs Momoi Diamond which breaks at around 33lbs or stick with 30lbs diamond which breaks at around 50lbs!

Otherwise you have to start looking at Braided lines (Spectra) stuff like powerpro etc in order to get line capacity on the reel and that stuff is not cheap! Definately not recommended if you're on a tight budget. 320yards should be fine for Alungi, worst case scenario just make sure your boat can go in reverse!

Benri while driving in a straight line there shouldnt be any problems if u take a large turn u should be ok. tun on the weighted lure.

Hi guys I have a question with regards the main line to put in my reel for albacore. I went to check out a few lines at a local fishing tackle shop and the shop assistant showed me a Yo-zuri line called MAREA Tournament line(blue roll of 200mt). This line is 50mm and on the roll there is written that it takes 23 Kgs. That's around 50 Lbs and at 50mm I should be able to put in 320yards as my reel takes 320 yards of 30Lbs (and as skip advised me before 30lbs is usually approx .52mm in diameter) . Have anyone used/or heard about this line and do you think it will do for my main line?

Thanks a lot,

Steve GB

I have used the Yo-zuri MAREA(fluocarbon) as a leader for Alungi for these last 3 years .Never had any problems with it.I found it very strong.

Hi SteveGB.  For albacore I use the 30lbs momoi diamond line on 20-40lbs Penn rods.  As leader I use 60lbs PLine fluorocarbon leader. If you wait a few days, Skip will get in touch so we can order the momoi diamond line in sort of bulk from a good source he found on the net.

Steve, I can only see the Marea Tournament mono in 200m (218yard) spools and I would be hesitant to be joining two lines so that might be a non starter unless you're happy to join, plus 200 yards isn't really enough for trolling.

As The Gaffer said we're looking at doing a bulk order of Momoi Diamond for this season.

SteveGB

Thanks, I will wait when you do the bulk order and decide then.

Btw the 200m rolls are all connected so I can buy two rolls joined together and therefore have 400m of line. Was just asking as it looked like a good line being .50mm, taking 23 kg (50lb), and i couldn?t find anything on it on the internet.
