has anybody been using this reel? i was planning to buy it due to its affordable price but i read too many negative feedback about this reel and now i am about to go for a shimano reel.

any feedback from forum members will be appreciated.

thanks

I have it for almost a year now, I am not the type  to carry a reel and rod for each and every fishing method that will be doing so I used it for jigging, line trawling for alungi, bottom fishing and cliff fishing too and so far I can't complain. It is meant for jigging it has quite a fast retrieve.

I have several reels but if I was to compare it with my Shimano Saragosa 18K the feel of the Saragosa is much better, but then again it was alot more expensive. My Saragosa 8K on the other hand is a bit smaller, the Cedros feels lighter but never had the opportunity to test it under stress (Cedros). It's perhaps not as smooth as the Saragosa's but definately better than my Penn 950SS

toxictuna

its a good reel, I caught a nice kubrita last year on cedros... a big'un. the reel got hot from all the drag the fish was giving it. still working :)

\Now looking for a good powerful trawling reel. Any suggestions and prices

Sargos

thanks for feedback.

saragosa is a bit above my budget. in fact, i liked the cedros mostly because of its affordable price and good specs for its value. also, okuma agent in malta has really good customer care and after sales service. so i think i ll go for it. but before i go ahead, i wanted to have forum members' opinions.

thanks again

Can confirm what free dive said, and the same goes for my reel which is the  gorilla 12.  You are hooked for life on alutecnos once you'll own your first one :)

I have had my Okuma titus for trolling and it has caught Pastardell, Alungi, kubrit and tonn and I am not talking just 18kg Alungi as those are like catching vopi......it is in perfect condition and works like clockwork. It is perfect the only complain in those days ( I am talking about a 12 year old used and abused reel) was the clicker as it was not loud enough.
I stand by Okuma for reliability, robustness and price tag.......good luck in your choice.

I'm a great fan of shimano, but lately I have Been using the Okuma solterra 30 reels. Excellent drag, and a very loud clicker. Still, nothing beats the shimano build and drag!

Alutecnos and Shimano are the greatest reels but unfortunately quite pricey too! Okuma are great value for money and another very similar line with great value for money are Omoto. Worth considering but it finally all depends on your budget!
I'd rather be fishing.....

The_Gaffer

I have to agree with Benri on this.  Okuma are not only cheaper, but you still get the great value for money.  Okuma have come a long way from the Titus range, introducing last year the Solterra range of trolling reels, and the high end makaira, which is on par with the Shimanos and Alutecnos.  So, if you're really in the market for a mid range reel with a value for money price tag, I would recommend the Solterra.  If you're in the market for a high end reel with a miod-range price tag, go for the Makaira.

Especially when it comes to fishing tackle, remember buy the dealer rather than the brand. It is going to be the dealer you need when you have warranty or issues..........

Sargos
