hi, i've seen shoals of black fish near quays (mollijiet) i think they're called cawl...they are very small in size....there are other black fish which are a bit bigger, and very big shoals of slim fish, which move all together, whose name i do not know....are these fish of any use? i tried fishing for them with a rod&reel using size six hooks, and ragworms as bait.

The black once as you said are called cawl. The slim fish which move all together may be many different fish! How big were they and were you in a port or open sea?

in st paul's bay behind/under wignacourt tower. by small i mean even smaller than cawl.

If you want to catch cawl use smaller hooks otherwise they will eat your bait but they will not get hooked :-[. The cawl make a good fish soup. ;D

I know very well the area I think they were what we call 'kurunella' they are silvery and stay in shoals. It's not worth it fishing for such small fish, even cawl is too small. If you manage to catch some of those silvery ones you can use them as bait for bigger fish. ;)
