this is not to excuse anyone, but also keep in mind that VHF calling can be disrupted or completely canceled out by someone else calling simultaneously. If the other one is more powerful or closer to Valletta than u get drowned out.
its not the first time that I had to repeat a radio check a couple of times till I got an answer. What I hate is getting an answer like " loud and clear" and I wouldnt know if Port is answering me or someone else. If I give out my boats name and Number than the least I expect is 'MFBxxx loud and clear'.

You are correct but If I yelled they would have heard me, I was near Valetta Port entrance
