i have just been given a penn multiplier reel, all it says is no 160, any info would be great although i may never get to use it

Is it a new reel? I know there was an older model (160) which was a smaller version of the Longbeach-68. Is it possible to post a pic? I`m pretty sure you`ll get used to it, most penn s are quite simple to use. The only draw back may be the weight. Dont worry about the low gear ratio cos when you re fighting a big one you dont really need a fast retrieve.

Probably it's an old tool by Penn which never lasts.

I got two of the same on my boat some 2 years ago and worked really well even on alungi.

They are good for light trolling. If they are the same they have a print no.160 on the black side bucakalite .... they will last forever mate.

I have 1 Penn longbeach and 2 Senators. I can say that these reels are extremely heavy duty and hard working reels!

thanks for all replies,  my guess is its an old one, allthough very clean, and it is a bit on the small side, so one more question, would it be used for fishing from a boat, (which is my guess), or from the shore, i was also given an old rod, with cork handle, rod is 2 section, approx 2 mtrs when made up, bit on the heavy side for my liking, and over half of the first section is cork, any help please,

Is is a solid rod with not much of a taper? Many outlets (in the 80s) sold these rods as sets with those penn reels. I think they were Olympic and most were either blue or white. The 2 piece had cork and the 1 piece teak. I`ve got an olympic 1 piece boat rod set up with a penn 68 longbeach which I ve been using weekly for over 20 years. This year I invested in another 6/0 Senator and I m sure I ve already got my money s worth.
