Regards sizes we allready talked in other topics. Just to remind that for catching a fish it s not just pressing the trigger.

I remember my first competition when it was held at Lapsi and the day after at Sliema (when you where partner with your brother and caught that huge vopa), that was my first dive that I had learned from it. I had a scuba diving suit. No one ever told me what is good and bad and most of all nothing about safety. Now adays here is these forums that help a lot on theory but for practice then its different.

By this kind of competitions we even have to teach new ones how and when to shoot fish, and with what to shoot them. That day every one will bring his own equipment to do his best, and new guys have to be there to see technicks and equipment where why we can dive deep cos these help us 50% of the dive. Also have to mention that lot of us fish close to shore too and adoperate other kind of equipment.

To mention sizes, I had the luck to dive with some good spearos where we catch some big ones. But to mention another one, 2 months ago a friend of mine who is a biginner had shoot an AJ of 12kg in shellow water. He shoot it with a speargun without reel and after trying to hold it for moe then 20 minutes it went off the spear. It had nearly killed him, first cos he didn t wanted to leave it, second its not a fish to shoot without a reel and third it was his biggest fish and didn t knew how to work it.

Another situation was with a new guy where we was in gozo and I had shoot a 7kg grouper and he blocked at he surface.

I have other situations to mention but would nt stop, so a guy catching some nice ones after a whole year doing his sport is not a bad thing, and after all this the fish goes on the table. Everyone have to start from somewhere. I remember one of my days that had to stop and come back from the dive due that of a turtle with a hook in its mouth, and this did nt happen only to me.

Just a note to every one, if there is someone that has a place with Amberjacks of certain size I will be happy to share with :)

free dive i do know exactly what you are talking about... we are gonna be vigilating the zone with 2 - 3 ribs so we can film some action etc... we are hoping that the competitors will not induce themselves in a killing frenzy just to gain top placing... if we do see such behavior that particular team will be disqualified.
But at the end of all it has to come from us individuals to learn how to respect nature ... and maybe leave something behind for those yet to come.
I do appeal to everybody again & again to have fun and enjoy the day as a day of meeting other persons who share the same interest ... and with a little luck anybody can win a small price.
we wish only fair play to everybody.

At the end of the competition we will have set up for you a marquee with some hot tea or coffee, snacks and refreshments.

The weighing in will take place and straight afterward the winners will be announced and prizes given out.
