Prosit Mayer, just goes to prove that in these early days might as well carry your bottom fishing gear to make the trip worthwile.

Also worth bearing in mind your skipper was under pressure to get you and company into some fish Trolling for Albacore even in the peak of the season may not yield any strikes in the earlly hours, many times I have chased Albacore and had no strikes until late morninig and in most cases multiple strikes, it's a matter of perseverence but in your skipper's case he used good judgement and went for plan B.

Went out today , landed two nice Albacore around 10 Kg each. Apparently it was a late morning bite for us, as both fish were caught within minutes of each other at around 10:30 am.

We got one late morning Saturday just before 1pmaround 3nm out from Freeport . Was only around 6kgs so catch and release, but at least my wife got to see the whole process.

We spent around another 90 mins trolling after that on first ridge but no strikes.

Try 4.5nm out (1st Ridge) bearing 253 degrees from Cirkewwa point.

Then follow a bearing of 190 degrees and you should be over the 1st ridge moving left and right intersecting it.

There's are 2 excellent slips in St. Georges bay, birzebbuga. However gnejna is fine and you're in alongi territory within 20 to 30 minutes.
