Buying Fishing Line - help needed !!

Dear ALL,

I have already posted some posts on this forum about shore fishing with a reel rod. However since I am a beginner I really need some help from you pros!

I am thinking of spooling up my reel once again as the line I have on it (shimano mono 0.30mm) is quite nasty and really hinders casting! I also want to buy some new line for rigs etc? I was thinking of going for Fluorocarbon or Fuorocarbon Coated lines. I also read something about Spectra, but am not sure if I really need it since I will be only fishing from land!

I've been going through internet sites checking the best fluorocarbon line etc... this is my impression so far!

Some people said that Berkleys Fluorocarbon is not such a good line, however I did some calculations that showed that its ultimate tensile stress (UTS) is one of the highest. Next came Fladen Maxximus. The UTS of P-line, which was one of the mostly praised, was not one of the top. This confusion led me to write this message on the forum as I am sure that some of you can answer my questions below. At least from their experience!

My questions are:

Which is the best brand for Fluorocarbon Lines in your opinion? And what load test do I need to buy? Some people told me 0.16mm but that?s just around 4lb for fluorocarbon. It might go a bit over if it?s a fluorocarbon coated line. Spectra will be much stronger but then it?s not invisible in water!

What type of line should I buy for spooling the reel and what load test? ? I will use my reel for shore fishing? including bottom and surface and also squid jigging! ? In other words I need it for everything as I don?t have money to buy another reel (am a student).

What load test lines do I need for rigs? I never caught a big fish with a reel rod and I really don?t want to loose one if someday I get one and my line breaks!

What size of hooks do you usually use? Heard that red hooks are great for live/death bait?

I guess that's all I wanted to ask till now? however if there is someone who wants to give me any tips about places to go and what for, best rigs etc? it would be great info not only for me but also for others like me?

john what type of technique are u using the line for?
john forget flouro carbons, they are very costy to spool up a whole reel of it plus it offers less strech compared to other monos.
flouro carbons are mainly are used in the terminal part of the reel where invisibility is regarded to be the best option
my suggestion would some sort of braided line as they offer quite a good break resistance compared to monos. unless you are thinking of competing in fishing competiotions, i don't recomment any type of mono.
braided lines of .14 or .16 in diameter can do an excellent job and in case you get stuck to the bottom, you just loose the terminal line
also, in addition braids are far more versitlie, as you can practice with ease techniques like spinning with sucess. (barracuda is mainl the main target)
