hello ppl, it's my first time talking in maltafishingforum.com,

don't know the topics you've been talking so far throughout the year..
but i got a couple of questions on squid fishing in Malta.
please reply!!>>

1. Where do you think is the best place for catching squid/cuttlefish around the middle - northern part of Malta??

1. And could someone give me links to some squid jigs that produce good sized squids?
cos i think i've got the whole apparatus for squid fishing completely wrong.

THANKS IN ADVANCE

A. FAva

Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day.  Teach him how to fish and he will sit in a boat and drink beer all day.

Hi and welcome to the forum. From what I've heard this year hasnt been the greatest for squid fishing so if you've been trying it might account for things a little. One of the best and busiest places is where the Gozo ferry comes in at Cirkewwa along that jetty.

Can you describe what you've been using, your current set up and type of lures.

Squid fishing has been pretty slow this year.  I find that Yo-Zuri's work best - green when there is a lot of light and orange when there is less.  Also use smaller sizes early in the season (November) and gradually work your way up as the season progresses.  Good luck!

thnks skip for the reply...

around the end of january i went to the moll ta bugibba  (squidding first time) and caught (1st one) a 524grams squid. around 6.30pm b-rixa bit tinsil (tal milied qisu). later at around 8pm, i swapped it with a yo-zuri green and caught a 356gram squid.

a week later,i  went to is-sajriens and caught a 300gr squid with a yo-zuri pink.

A week later me and my friend went to fraben to check the place out, and caught my biggest squid so far this year..   with the green YO-zuri. A 578gram squid.. (hsibt li wehel mal qiegh ghax ma kont naf li jigbed daqsekk)

a few minutes later, my friend caught a (just over) 300grams cuttlefish (sicca).

the pink and green lure i used to catch the squid. ( the only thing that is different from my personal lures is that they are not thin ( like as in the photo) but are naqa hoxnin, but still glow.

can anyone please give me some tricks for squidding?

1. does direct light into the seawater affects the squidding?
2. if the lure i use glows?! but really glows (bright)!! super glow! does it attract the squid or not?

the super glow lure is a Yamashita.

Basically, yes and yes.

Squid are attracted to light, so you will often see people fishing for squid with a home made light shining in the water. Get a 12V battery, and a powerful 12V halogen bulb and holder and make your own simple holder.

Every couple of times you cast re-charge your lure so it glows more. There are some squid lures meant to sink towards the bottom, then you jig some and reel in a bit, wait 5 secs, rig jig and reel in. Locally you mostly find surface squid lures which don't have as much weight.

But regardless of all this, if there are no squid in the area you won't catch. It's one of those things, aka Fishing :)

oh yes yes....
