squid fishing by boat

at st pauls bay they troll with two klamari lures without weight they use about 15mts line. i tried it a couple of times caught 5 in all like this. but where i go its not very good for klamari.

i have my boat at monoel island. where can i go for squid at this time of the year? also do i need light to attract the squid? and what's the best technique to fish for them?

the best to catch squid in your area is on that reef in front of dragonara but there are no squids this month. they should start from August and they will be caught also in daylight.

To make it clear... the ref infront of Dragoanara is where there is the big black buoy?
as I dont have a fishfinder so i cannot search for it with one.
And how do they catch them? with a drop downline to the bottom or is it by trolling or spinning?

hi skip, i use the pater noster with 3 squid jigs but troll slowly. Sometimes this method is very effective especially when there is no current in water.

I learnt this method from MXlokk fisherman and is very effective. Although....i still notice that i do not catch as much as they do!


looks like there is something i need to improve.....am working on it!

so the paternoster should have a weight at the bottom like the normal paternoster rig? and should the paternoster touch the bottom or should it be a bit up from the floor?

as Placebo, explained you have to use the pater noster method. it's always good to retreive at least 1m from the bottom or else you will leave all the lures in the bottom. Sometimes we caught them from 4m below surface. You have to try depending in which depts you are. there are people who trolls for squids others they just move with the current and there are others especially the Zrieraq who anchor's their boat so that they spotlight always in the same spot. Small fish are attracted to the light and Squid comes for hunting which will not go directly into the light but will wait for the prey in the circumference of the light until he's ready for his catch.

for the exact point you have to go out a little bit more but be surte that when Squid start you will see other people out there as well.

by the way if you're a beginner use only 2 lures ghax zgur tharbat kollox man:)

Down there they all said that didn t caught squid. nfact even my buddy just few. I had a lure and it was always being caught on it. I think there are squid around but too much bait

at the moment baby squids are being caught. They need at least 2 - 3 weeks more so we'll be able to start catching them in decent sizes. I just love squid fishing. It is very relaxing for me. This winter I want to experience spearfishing them at night too. We'll see how it goes :-)
