Its true that tridents are better for fishing in tana but I wouldn't want to find myself shooting at a bonito or AJ with a trident! Till now I have never been diving with the aim of fishing purely in tana.
Man will never be able to stop time but he can get very close by freediving.

your right rob, and you saw me fishing with my 90 only and nothing else but that was for aguato technich. 2 weeks ago I was with Kennit Bugeja and Giovanni Mulliet and went to Bahar ic caghaq. We went on a place full of Kahli, and if we wanted we could had catched a lot also with a 90cm gun, but after that rock we tried to find sone fish in tana so we took our 60cm with 4 point. Saying for me I had lost 3 1kg amberjaks and 2 pagri, but didn't regrat that day cos when you see 2 prof guys in action also with a 60cm, you then can say that is a must to have the small guns.

Also in Tunes on the competition, all the fish caught by the maltese competitiors had been caught by the 4 point guns. For example when the fish is scared it goes all in tana an there you can catch it more easy. The only thing is that this technick needs a lotof experiance an how to aproce the fish. Once I was with Giovanni and he went down 5 times and he bring 5 Gurbell, and for me I can say that went down other 5 times and didn't found one on the same rock.

hey guys,

First of all i would like to thank Edward for his advice and for the dive! It was great watching him doing the aspetto for real!  Advice from pros like Edward are very usefull and can save you money!! Infact he had adviced me that some of my equipment which i bought for spearfishing was not good! However the guy at the shop didn't mention anything!! buy anyways, we learn from mistakes!

i hope to get a new speargun this christmas so i will surely take a look at the omer cayman hf first! from where shall i get the sandvic spear? is it from aquatica aswell? And when u buy the rubber by metre, do they show you how to attach the nylon (if its nylon after all)?

thanks in advance,

reg,

Jonathan

When buying a shaft don't heistate to spend a couple of extra pounds - I have a zinc covered beuchat at the moment and it's been on my gun since February - It never bent the slightest bit and I never hesitate to shoot because there are rocks close by - in fact once it got stuck in a crevice and I could not get it out so I had to cut the mono and go back home - I bought another shaft but shafts like the one I had were not available so I had to go for the same shaft but which was not zinc coated - I managed to bend it each time I used it! Now I have the original shaft back on (cause I managed to get it back) and it's still straight! The only problem with these beuchat shafts is that the part of the shaft where the barb is fitted is not narrower than the rest of the shaft in order to make the shaft one smooth plane - apart from that they rock!

hey guys,

As i told edward, i will surely buy a good spear when i get a new speargun! but first i have to get the new speargun. its a bit expensive for a present hehe so i think i will have to buy it myself :) Do you guys know where i can get it (the omer cayman hf 90) a bit cheeper?

Has anyone ever bought a speargun from ebay or from an online shop?

emic i have one basic problem.. i never dived in  winter but this year i bought a 5mm wet suit to fulfil my diving. hom much weight do you use?i dive in approximately 6-10 metres and trying to perform some aspettos for the usual bream. i weigh around 79 kgs. any ideas ? ???
Good season so far.....

EmicMalta

it doesn't means that you nead a specific weight.I think with a 5mm yo need 8-9kg but it matters what type of fishing, how deep, technick. I'm saying that cos saying for mewitha 5mm i can go also with 4 but its a technik of how you tern over you self on the serfice. For example if i will do sone cave hunting on 10+ to 20mtrs i can go with just 4kg and in summer sometimes i use less. Between the first 10 mtr you need a lot of wait cos your air inside you body and your suit is still not compressed so you need to compence with the lead.

today Jean and I went for a dive at lapsi. No Ajs. Found 4 octupus, 3 nice sea bream, 4 morlini and a nice mullet. At a moment I shoot aseabreamof 1.3kg+ at the limit of the shoot and he use to get off from the spear. Really a pitty cos was nice one. Tried to follow it and entered under a rock. Went down with another gun and found 4 hiding and shoot on 1 of them. Then whent up and jean had prepared me the 4 point and the torch  to make another dive. I went down again and foun a 600gr 1 and shoot it out. Took out the fish from the spear and went down again. Tried each possible corner of this rock but didn't saw it again.
Tomorrow I'm going with Giovanni to Comino for a really good spearfishing day. Hope everything goes good. :)
