  Hey all,
I seen a few big moray eels out spreaing this weekend just wanted to know if they are good to eat and can I shoot them? I looked in some old post but could not find anything, also do they have ciguatera in this part of the world?

baghira

You can spear at them and they are good for fish soup....They have too many bones to be edible... and if it is big you have the risk that it bends your spear, so it it worth??? Usually no...

Ciguatera ?????

Too many scientific words for my liking. In poor words Skip, are you saying that barracudas, snapper, moray eels, parrotfishes, groupers, triggerfishes and amberjacks, which are most likely to cause ciguatera poisoning, are no longer good to eat?!!!

ciguatera poisoning hails from tropical seas,so it is extremely difficult to find it over here.having said that,if a fish is infected and migrates from the tropics to malta,it is possible to contaminate whoever is unlucky enough to eat it.so,let us not lose sleep {or appetite}as the case is very unlikely.

Hahahahahah
qed tara nick (Skip)......
Never hear before of this condition..... so it should not be endemic to Malta... otherwise one day or another I would have met this word..... :-)
