I'll also like to join in for up to a 12nm trip as I'm also under 6m (4.6m) with an S registered. But being a beginner you guys have to tell me what tackle I need... So far I've only got a rod and some "inherited lures" which I have no idea what to use for!
I'd rather be fishing.....

even though i'm new on this forum, i really think you have some nice ideas for group fishing. after all i think group fishing is one of the best practices, cause everyone can share his knowledge and everyone ends up have twice the fun than if he went alone.

I am personally a loner. After such a hectic life, when I go fishing I want my peace! Although I must admit that certain company I enjoy.

It's true everyone is different. I personally feel that when trolling for Alungi or Tuna your chances increase if you are more boats fishing in a co-ordinated spread pattern. You create more reason for them to come up due to prop wash and noise, plus with lures spread out across the boats even more of an inviting target.

Once you get a hookup the key is keeping the fish in the area and up near the surface in a feeding frenzy and this is where other boats can play a big helping role.

For other types of fishing, bottom fishing etc, perhaps there aren't any benefits and then as Leonard mentions, each to their own.

on the 12mile topic i was thinking there are some good reefs on the limit which one can try out.

Hi Skip - Count me in on this trip.  I have 3 places for anyone interested in Cost Sharing with me this fishing trip.  Only snag would be that I'd have to go into harbour at Lampedusa to refuel, or else carry extra fuel on board, just in case.

Boat's Economically Cruise Speed in knots - 18Knts
How much fuel you carry in litres - 240ltrs
If you know your fuel burn at cruise and troll, please include

GPS (Yes/No) - Yes, with Med. Map
No. of ppl you can carry day trip - 3 +1
No. of ppl you can carry overnight trip - 3+1

Also, if anybody is interested in cost sharing on Alungi trips, please let me know.  I can take upto 3 other people including myself.  All fishing gear is provided, Penn/Shimano rods and reels, tigress outriggers, some of the best lures in the business all rigged up with high quality tackle. There is a large fridge freezer for food, salids, beers, water ect.  The catch is kept in a large 150ltr colman cooler.   I can never guarantee that we get hookups, but I can guarantee that I know some of the best places for Alungi!!.  Anybody interested can have a peek at the boat in the gallery section under boats/marine related. Boat's name is The_Gaffer.  Anybody interested just give me a shout.

Hi Gaffer, That's an interesting offer coz with my sailing boat it's a bit difficult to cover great distances quickly given my cruising speed of around 6 knots. So, yep I'ld be really interested in joining someone on a faster boat for such trips contributing my share towards the expenses - my no is 99882615  :)

Jonathan I usually go out doing 8 knots and vary my troll from 6 to 8 knots. So ur sailing boat is ideal for trolling, and its free as long as there is wind......

Jonathan

Hi Shanook, yes that's true. Infact I find my sailing boat great for all other types of trolling -   When there are fish to be caught in the coastal / inshore regions, such as tumbrell, lizzijiet, cervjol, kahli, strilji, etc,  I'm out on fishing with it practically every day. Fishing with the sailign boat is also great because with every sligth change int he wind u get a change in boat speed and I find this to be a good teasing and attracting factor for most fish.

However, it's a bit of a different story for alungi. My boat is berthed in Msida, and it takes almost 2 hours just to get down to the Marsaxlokk fairway buoy. On top of that u have to add at least another hour to get to the fishing grounds for alungi, so that's already 3 hrs, meaning that for some alungi fishing I would have a minimum of 6 hours, just to get to the alungi fishing grounds and back.

Lol so how about swapping our boats whenever we want to go for alungi? - You can take my   boat out from Msida and save on fuel & I'll gladly take your gas guzzler out. If your boat is in BBgua, that would be even better for me - In that case as an extra sign of gratitude I'm also ready to buy you a newspaper and leave it on my sailing boat so that when you are on it you can read it on the way till u get to d alungi fishing grounds!   ;D

Skip you could always say that a fish carried you out beyond the 12nm limit...........and got away. The Lampedusa trip sounds great to me, but I think its a bit early for me. My boat is a just over 6m can confortivly take 2 persons.
Can't wait to go fishing

The 12nm is a real pain in the butt if you are S registered, I agree. Aside from MMA regs most insurance companies won't give you a policy that lets you go beyond 12nm, although a few do. My new boat is registered under the SSR UK flag so even though I am under 6m will not have the 12nm restriction.

The trip I proposed to Lampedusa won't be happening any more for me as the boat I was using, 32 footer (my dads) is up for sale and won't go in the water this year.

If we fish as a pack this year I reckon we have a much better chance of holding the fish in the area.
