Using Mono to spin?

Hi all,

I'm visiting Malta in a couple of weeks time a I was hoping to do quite a bit of spinning from the shore. Just wanted to get some opinions on whether anyone has tried using mono for spinning and if so what diameter/strength?

I know most people would recommend braid but I just thought I'd see what people had to say on the topic
