Hi Guys,

Last year I purchased the Furuno FCV 620 5.6" colour model with dual frequency and an output power of 600W. It was in the LM400 region.  Its a great model upto 600mtrs, but then gets a bit dodgy in depths over that.  Like all echo sounders, you need to read the manual and experiment a little before actually mastering the unit.  Its equipped with temp/speed sensors and a host of alarms, including fish/temp change alarm.   Great for locating temp breaks.  I also have a forward looking scanner upto 1250feet, and depth of 640feet, but had to take it out since I had second harmonics due to 2 echo sounders operating at the same time.  I bought that on the net for $600 but would gladly part with it for Lm80.

I dont know if u are interested but my friend has just purchased a Cobra from White sails I will post more info as soon as I get it. I know he is looking for a depth of 3000feet so its for those interested in a serious depth finder.

Was reading over at thehulltruth.com that Humminbird don't have a good reputation. They are considered to be unreliable, lots of failures and don't perform that well. Surprised me as I thought they were a major brand.

Concensus seemed to be towards Lowrance (not sure if anyone gets them here) and Garmin, followed by Raymarine, Furuno for more expensive specialist etc.

Lowrance by Naudi of Naxxar......skip the thing is that the transducer is made by a different maker I think the best one is Airmar. Thats why my friend bought a Cobra and then matched the transducer to it.

garmin are good and very easy to use. furuno are the best echosounders my friend has one for about 12 years and still working good and we go in depths of 800 mtrs. but its a bit difficult to understand we only use it to see the depht.

In fact I think I have the same unit. Can't remember the exact model but it's a huge thing with a big CRT screen. Thinking of selling it minus transducer in case anyone is interested to make me an offer, no reserve price!! As busumark said, not easy to understand compared to the ones now that put fishy icons etc!

busumark

i think its the same model its like you are watching the tv at home.
