Hello everybody, this is my first post in this forum. ive been a registered user for quite some time and I must say that i really like this forum cos everybody here seems quite friendly and helpful. My name is Matthew and I live in naxxar, my main interest and hobby is spearfishing but i also like fishing.

I would appriciate if someone could give me thier feedback on the beuchat guns, mainly the marlin carbon as i was thinking of buying the 85 one. After seeing that a few here posses this gun I tought you might help me. I currenty use an abellan denton 110 but need a smaller gun mainly for winter. what is your advice?

thanks in advance,
Mat. :)

heheheheheh    I cannot be such an expert lately...
Matthew you must first of all explain for what kind of fishing and species are you targetting?
I would not opt for a carbon gun for such a length... I find that is useless due to the fact that it is small and does not weigh much... and also for the fact that the barrel will not be put under such pressure with that length..

Hi Matthew, welcome in the forum.

Personally I m using the marlin guns for these last 3 years and have to say that they are trouble free and as every one know about me and my videos I always give them hard work nearly every day. Personally I using only marlin guns so that I have always same handle and same head, with a difference of changing the shooting distance. I can say that I have tried lots of spearguns and personally till now it s the best I ever had. No more people saying "treat the carbon with care cos it s fragile" or "they bend" or "trigger problems". If you want come and see mine and even try it. Does nt means that it s a good gun for you, but as performance and reliable its one of the best.

As you said, you have an Abellan and like Jurgen that even he has an Abellan he says that It s easy for him to aim even with the marlin. Infact he s thinking to get.

For an 85cm I don t see too much difference if it s alum or carbon due to the size. Infact I ve been using a prototype of the new marlin with Hydro foaming shape, a bit heavy but it s performance is like having the 105 for me. Did nt tried it on a target but I had done it on fish leaving same rubbers and same setup. I suggest to wait for the following week or two and check these out. It s all 2011 products they are on the way.

For using it in cave hunting I would nt suggest it unless your not exceeding -18mtr

In my idea for an 85 size, the shape of the marlin start counting, if its circle or oval it makes very difference especially if used in shallow water. I only use the circle barrels when doing cave fishing so the barrel enters more quickly and does not hit the rocks

hi!

thanks for your warm welcome and your quick replys!

regarding the gun I would be using it for general use in winter like between rocks, cave hunting, aspetto in shallows etc..... i am looking for something manoverable in th currents and that can enter holes with no prb..... also i was thinking of using a setup with 2 rubbers and maybe a 7mm shaft in order to be able to handle  open water shooting.

thanks in advance :)

for the new marlin 85 I don t suggest a double rubber setup. Its really powerful as it is. As I said its nearly having the 105 for me so factory setup is very good.
Only thing I would do on it is to shorten a bit the rubbers after 2 months of loaded sessions. I did penetrated groupers even at the limit and here we are talking on 6.5mm spear

emic what rubber thikness are you using and is the gun the carbon or the new aluminium gun? and can the aluminium one handle 2x16mm rubbers?

i think its an 18mm due that I just let it how they gave it to me and didn t cared about this detail. It sall the same like the carbon, marlin handle and marlin head with 2 holes, with a difference in the barel to be in alum covered with hydro foaming at a flat shape instead of a circle tube
