To fish? And where to fish? That is the question!

Hi guys!

Is there anyone who can tell me or at least explain to me how one observes the weather and predicts where fish should be or better where one should fish? My case is shore fishing. As a beginner I?m noticing that certain times when I go fishing for example in Cirkewwa and there?s no fish there, at Bugibba will be the opposite and vice versa. Obviously this may be a case but I know one would tell where is best to fish according to the weather. Is there a chart (I?m willing to make one for myself) or does anyone have one who would like to share it? Ex. Wind force + direction + sea pressure = location hehe. I?m just asking but I heard people who tell you ?Bhal llum ?hemmek? ikun tajjeb?. Or sometimes you go fishing and no wonder no one is fishing there ? there are no fish in that place? Thanks in advance !

One last thing? is a fish finder worth it for shore fishing? I saw some (fish finders) who would range from ridiculously cheap ones to professional expensive ones. Has any one of you ever tried one on land and is it necessary and worth it?

hi mate , fishing is not algebra ta  or any other equation , it's just common sence ,
wind force and direction will help from where to fish , for example for vopi at cirkewwa - you can't go on a day with NW force 5-6 or 7 cos the sea will fish you......


it all depends on the type of fish you're looking at . i go NW force 6-7 for sargi and i love it  , but for vopi from sw to nw  its perfect

by the way in my opinion do not waste money for land fish finders , all you need is experiance mate , sunset and sunrise are ideal for shore fishing.

I remember speaking with someone (forget who) that said that if the wind is coming from a particular direction the fish tend to be nearer to the shore and if from another, far out. He was referring to boat fishing, but I guess it impacts a little on shore fishing as well. Can't remember the specifics though which I know isn't very helpful!

it all depends on experience. Some simple steps:

rough winds and rough seas: good for pole fishing  - as in some good places fish tend to enter in a very shallow range. In maltese we call it sajda fir rima - this particular method one will search spots where there is a good white foam in sea. With this method one can catch fish in the likes of Mullet, sargi, kahli xilep and some other fish.

good also for surf fishing and long throw beach casting in sandy beaches

light winds and low current: good for light ledgering in ports. Ideal also for float mullet fishing.

the more you fish and the more you watch what others are doing help you grow in the subject.

this forum is a great opportunity for one to learn and ask all he wants freely about any subject related to fishing. The only problem is that people who love to fish are normally fishing in their free time and not using PCs.

if you keep up to date with daily posts you can get a good guide of where and what type of fish are being caught. Then you can ask about the subject

Hi, I'll be staying in/near sliema, i realise that alot of you guys specialise in trolling, but are there any marks with deep water near to rocks near by the harbour?

In the harbour I assume that there are some deaper water sections, are you allowed to fish there?

Most importantly is ther a shop near wherer I can ask for help when I run put of ideas (and need some more tackle)?

yep phildean...if you go to the end part of sliema - that is Gzira you can find a very good tackle shop (pirotta fishing centre) then if you move further up in Gzira there is (Mister Fish) who are both very well equipped with live bait daily.

In Sliema you can do light ledgering and is very good for mullet fishing (Float fishing) ranging from 200gms to the 1.5kg range.

Night fishing in Sliema can prove entertaining if you go for a running ledger method using yabbies or ragworm as bait. Have some fine tip rods so that you can use light gear and monos of not more than 0.18mm

thanks for the hints.............i'm planning to be well fed in the local restaurants so wont be looking to cook what i catch, they should all go back safe and sound.

I've done alot of mullett fishing though hooked far fewer than my time fishing for them would suggest, i'm looking forward to exploring the fishing and the sights and sounds, thank you.

Hi, i arrive on the 1 August departing on the 14th, we're staying in sliema on the front, it'll be good to get some nice weather though hopefully there'll be a swell to give me a chance of some fish
