Hi all....
I am new to the world of fishing...But it's never to late.
I own only a rod with a reel at the moment and just clocked only
a few hours in fish and spent a lot of money, which eventually they ended
in the see. ( not the fishing rod. till now !!)
I am searching for some tips... just to get going as I think for sure I am
doing something wrong as night after night I go empty handed ( or Malta is out of fish. hope not)
It seems a good way to spend some good alone time and away from hectick never ending days.
Hope help is not far.. :)
Happy fishing to all...

Welcome to the forum. Have a read through the topics on shore fishing here http://maltafishingforum.com/talk/index.php/board,61.0.html

Perhaps you can also open a New Topic there and post what your current set up is, specifically what line you have and thickness, how you've rigged up, where you've been trying and what bait you have been using.

Hi,

I have just returned from a week on Gozo, if the fishing there is anything like Malta's there is no way there is a lack of fish. I was very lucky in as much as I had 38 Awrat over 1kg, and numerous other fish. I was using size 14 hooks on 3kg hook link (sorry dont know the diatmeter of the line, I just work in breaking strain) I was fishing below a float about 1 - 2 meters deep. I was using fresh shrimp, bread, dried worm and rubber worm (brought with me from the UK) I also spent time spinning, early morning, for baracuda. I had one take, two follows but did not manage too land one, maybe next time.

I hope this helps, if you want any more info, if you PM me I will try and help. Good luck, all the best and tight lines.
I'd rather be fishing 🎣

Hi,

Just joined the forum, looks cool and full of information.  Used to fish when i was younger but now i am in full swing into fishing.... No boat (yet).
Prefer fishing in the late eve/night, but looking forward to start boat fishing.  In fact have already invested in some equipment.
Interested in bottom fishing, vertical jigging and trailing.

Hi All

I am Lee from England, i enjoy course fishing (fresh water) using rod or pole float or ledger fishing, i have done a bit of deep sea fishing in england but now i live near the coast i would like to do more shore and beach fishing.
I have been to Malta before and loved it did a bit of fishing on a boat for bait fish but had to come in due to bad weather so didnt get a chance to deep sea fish in Malta, but as my partner michelle is half Maltese i find myself going there a bit more often and would love to fish the shore line and go out in the boat, now my cheek can anyone help me i would like to know if i fished the shore line what kind of rod should i get and would i be able to cast out a hundred yards/meters and what line would i need and what weight lead would i need, also if i went out in a boat what rod, line, and weights would i need, also to do both what size hooks. Sorry to ask for so much so soon but if you dont ask you dont get in my book and any advice would be greatly receieved thanks alot.

Hi everyone,

I've been registered to this forum for quite a while however I have not been an active angler for a couple of years due to studies and other work commitments. Now that I have more time in my hands I have just started to enjoy my fishing again.

I was introduced to 'bil-mitluq' (a pole with no float/ no sinkers)  technique as a kid and practically I have fished this way 90% of my time. I have always used hniex tal imperjal (unfortunately this is rather expensive) and in some cases ckal after sunset till the early hours of the morning. I have caught some nice Sargi/Kahli and some occasional Gilthead (Awrata) along the years from the harbour area but I am by no means an expert like some of the guys on this forum  :), the limited knowledge I have I have learned through experience.

Lately I've been interested in trying out new techniques and new types of bait and I must say that this forum is a gold mine of information, so well done to every contributor! I am willing to try out some spinning and also set up a running float rig and see how it goes. I am a complete newbie in this type of fishing so will see how it goes :)

fishyfriend

hi all, just joined this forum - hoping it will make a difference to my fishing... i know very little about this, but have been trolling off the end of my boat for more than a year and caught only two fish - a smallish tuna and a good sized mackerel. i also like to take my kids fishing but they dont like to go out on the boat, so we just do it from shore.

Anyway, as my nickname suggests, I am more of a friend to the fish, than their mortal enemy... but any help with getting to know how to catch a few more would be greatly appreciated.

Hi will welcome to the forum....
Did you buy the jigging equipment already? Do not hurry..especially since that you do not have a boat but depend on others.. Jiggin equipment can be somehow expensive, and boring many times..

CARP3R

Hi,
I now live in mellieha after relocating from the U.K with my family, back there i was very much into carp angling as a friend owned a gravel pit in france.
Since being here i have been out on a few charter trips trolling for tuna, with chris through Aquatica amongst others.
i have ordered from the usa a couple of  daiwa  sealine heavy trolling rods and shimano TLD 25`s for trolling work, and was thinking 20/40 lb class 7 footers and medium duty shimano level winds for jigging/light bottom fishing to get next?.
What i would really be interested in is maybe a fuel/boat share with any of the members on here,i would like to go out maybe once or twice a fortnight, for some trolling/wreck/ bottom fishing to learn the ropes and gain experience here in malta as looking to get my own boat in the next year. i am available most any day of the week and require only a day or two`s notice so could make up the numbers or even just go out for a couple of hours pleasure fishing, have own tranport so no worries there, just really want a bit better cost effective way of getting out on the sea really ;)
please feel free to pm me
regards Darren
