Catching Ckal (Sand Hoppers or Yabbies)

hi guys!

I was wondering if any of you know how to catch ckal...

Sometimes I see an old man at bahar ic-caghaq collecting alka with a strong hand net. Then he empties everything onto the ground and searches for something.

Do you think he was catching ckal?

Once i tried it myself, but the only thing that i managed to do is get myself wet for nothing.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi Kris basically for catching Ckal you need a big kopp with a furkettun attached to it on the front. Then you need to go at least knee deep in the water and try to pull up as much as possible "hama" from the seabed. There they will be. Imp to note that it's one of the most tedious and tiresome things to do. I only did it once and it's  better to buy them since then I made 2 days with my back and heads not feeling them any more in pain.

as far as i know... that man was catching "wirdiena"; bil malti nghidu, "jaghmel il wirdiena ta l-alka"... tintuza ghal-kahli veru l-aktar....

they use kubru mixed with water and when they spray it on the alka the wirdiena will run from it as it burns its body.

yes the apperance is like a wirdiena but kahli and sargi likes it a lot.

don't try it with pifpaf it will kill them

can someone be so kind and explain the best way to catch 'il-wirdiena ta l-alka' please? Or even better is there anyone willing to meet up and help me please?
