Saved Turtle

Previous Image | Next Image
Description: My good old diving buddy Emic has carried out a remarkable gesture worth mentioning. Basically whilst on a dive he met this little turtle who had gulped a hook and still had line coming out of its mouth. After running after it for a short while he managed to secure it to his buoy and swam back to land. It was a long and tiring swim backwards as the turtle resisted, but they got both back safe. In the picture there is Jeffrey and his two sons (all sea lovers). The responsible authorities were called and immediately they collected the turtle. All the best to the turtle, well done Emic and hello to Jeff and co  ;D

Well Done Emic 5***** your an example to all ;D & i can imagine it must have been a hard swim!! & how! As i once hooked a small turtle of similar size whilst bottom fishing 4 years ago and it totally smoked the drag on my reel!!
However eventually when i got it close to the shore i found it was just hooked in the curve of its 'beak' & i managed to get the hook out with pliers, which the turtle wasn't too happy about btw,as it bit the living hell out of the pliers!...Basicaly if you accidentally catch one guys, all i can say is watch your fingers!!!!!  ;)

First at around 3pm I was doing an aspetto in 12mtr and saw a turtle passing in the surface. Went back for the float and continued my spearfishing. After an hr I tried to go for some octopus in the shellow water. Then I saw this second one with somthing coming out of her mouth. At firsht I tought it was a jellyfish but i was wrong. It was a 3mtr of .40mm line. Have to say that it was confused and even trying to catch ti was hard. Didn t liked to catch ti from the line due it would had hurt it more especially could be harder to keep her alive. after 20-25min of playing on how to cath it and put it in the boe i managed to arrange. Then had my way back and it was a bit hard cos it was nearly dark and the sea full of jellyfish. Then when I arrived at Lapsi I forud Jefrey waiting for me and imidiatly he phoned the authorities. In less then an hour they came to pick it up.

The hook was swollowed well and i think it was very danger trying to take it out by myself. I suggest others to do the same and if it is hooked by long lines would nt be bad to call the authorities about the thing. For sure they can come and wait for it at the port.

N.b. That day even some other friend had met turtles
