First of all VERY well done on the awesome catch!! 5*
But just spiking the fish won't bleed it all the way,and rid its blood of the toxins that build up whilst its struggling on the hook.You need to make slits behind the gill plate on each side.Also no offence mate,but this particular alunga can't have been spiked right cos its mouth opens wide and it shudders and the fins go up (brain death) if its been spiked well,and then they pretty much stay like that..well the mouth closes a little,but not all the way like above.

You're right this one was unfortunately not bled. Is a fish with its mouth closed and fins down a tell-tale sign of this?

As for spiking, yep it was spiked. We spike all fish as soon as we catch them in order to stun them immediately and this serves a number of reasons: it makes removing the lures/hooks a safer process, it is more humane for the fish and the fish tastes better as there will be less of a buildup of acid in its blood/flesh.

fins down, mouth closed no cuts........seems like the fish was not spiked or bleed........very sad for an Alunga..oh well.............
