awrata 1.5kg

Previous Image | Next Image
Description: Found a quiet and calm spot in the harbour that offered some deep waters around 15m out and i was fishing on a slope in around 3-5 m depth. groundbaited the area and around 10 min later i got the first strike, but after 10 sec or so, the fish released.... i'm assuming it was another awrata as it was quite a strong tug, but since it has a strong jaw, the hook did not penetrate. some 15 min later, i get another strike, possibly the same fish if it stayed in the area, the float started moving sideways and going down slowly, as soon as the float disappeareed below the surface for a few seconds, STRIKE, and fish on...... drag zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz-ing out of my daiwa sweepfire 1500 loaded with 0.14mm yo zuri line and the 3.6m olimpus road bent double which also played a good role in tiring the fish in less than 2 min, (which is a good thing considering the amount of 'bagi' there are in the area). At the end had the fish exhausted at the surface and gently slid it up the adjacent slip way(as i forgot the net in the car) Once again, the 0.08mm leader backed with a size 14 'owner' hook did not disappoint.... especially considering the hook was set deep down near the gills!!! Overall, one of the best 1-1.5hrs fishing sessions i've had lately.  ;D 8)
