Description: This fish was caught by a friend of a friend. Not sure if caught by trolling of bottom fishing though. Any idea what it is?

This is one of the 7 alien (non-native) species of puffer fish currently recorded in the Mediterranean, known as the silver-cheeked toadfish (Lagocephalus sceleratus) - its extremely toxic and has recently been recorded within our waters twice (the first two times this has happened) - we are currently conducting research on its frequency in local waters - for this reasons, would appreciate if you send me any photos of the species if you have caught it or observed it underwater - all data will be dealt with discretion of course, and will be used for research purposes only - any photos of puffer fish species caught locally are welcome of course, but we need the photos since its difficult to tell some of these species apart - a big thanks for your help!!! |
