Pink Dentex 13.5 Kilo (29.76 Pounds)

Previous Image | Next Image
Description: Caught this bad boy jigging last year, very nice fighting fish. Not fast action like you would get with the Pelagic species, however its a lot like fighting a fish with 4 wheel drive!

Well done dave :)

However its not a Pagrus pagrus, its a Dentex gibbosus.  And it will not grow a bump on its head since its a female, if it was a male it would already have a big bump by now

You seem a nice guy I know of a nice reef somewhere accessible to where you were fishing

PM me i give you the coordinates and enjoy - trust me I have not fished it for a while now and I always managed something - probably will pay a visit next week weather permitting

I would try inciku my friend if you are looking for Dentex- FAR FAR more productive at the moment than jigging.  ;)

For a first time well done - it looks like you were jigging the right way - It is not just luck

Personally I prefer live bait fishing, albeit time consuming (catching the bait is becoming a nasty practice in the current weather)

Well, to be fair Granitu, there are fish farms in the Valletta port too, tied up on the Kalkara side.

I caught the fish in my top secret location, it was so strong that it pulled me 25 miles and finally managed to pull it in next to the fish farms... hehe.

To be honest I didnt know anything about jigging, that was my first time and I thought I would jig and catch a 200 kilo Tuna "catch and release of course" I am not willing to lose everything for a fish. And I caught that instead.

Since then I only went once and jigged in any location I felt I would catch a fish....however no luck.

I do have a video of catching this fish, I use my mobile, it is very good quality.

I will however have to go over it as I believe I might have been very excited and said a word that is not the best for children to listen to, I will fix it and upload here as soon as I can.

P.S.

This was my first fish jigging, hence the slip of tongue hehe! ; )

You wish Valletta Port haha...

You are far away from Valletta Port

Excellent catch anyways and forget the fishfarm behind you... the place is somewhere else :p

Yes, it is a Hawwat I believe, that is what everyone is telling me, in English the name is Pink Dentex. If you go on Google images and type in "pink dentex" you will see that fish. Do you know what a Hawwat is in English?

As for location, yes it is very clear, I am obviously fishing in the Valletta Port ;)
