Hi Guys
I am planning to start the spinning fishing shortly. I was about to buy the rod and reel yesterday but a friend of mine told me that the spinning from shore is only good for barracuda and it is not even worth as you cant do spinning every time of the year as it has its seasons...
Is what I was told true? Since I dont understand much about spinning, I will appreciate your advice before I go ahead with the purchasing of the rod & reel.
Thanks
Sargos
every fishing method have it's season! Spinning is a fishing method not only good for barracudas but many other species.
it's an easy setup and non messy fishing (unless you catch fish)
the beauty of spinning is that you can have a rod and reel set up which you can leave in your car and every now and then try different places.
Spinning enthusiasts know what this is all about ........ go on get your equipment ready ....... start browsing different topics and you'll see
agree with placebo.... Lots of fish to target... Blue runners, amberjack, little tunnies, lampuki, atlantic bonito, sea bass....and the list goes on.
Thanks for the advice guys...
Another question, do we need to use different lures for different species?
Is spinning during the day useless?
not at all.... You'll still get some action from blue runners' leerfish and maybe small serra.... And anything juvenile, please catch and release!
@sargos.... Yes, there are differant lures for differant species, however, there are a couple of all rounder lures you should keep with you...
just caught a small jack 30 from the shore on a 9cm xrap rapala. It was about 7 o clock this morning.
so it is working during the day (at least early) and not only barracuda.
and if you have a light rod it gives you a nice bend in the rod.
I go spinning every time i can go, maybe from Feb to April are not so productive but cuda's are here all year. For eg. Last year i caught a 1.5kg cuda xmas eve morning.
When mr fish brought yamashita rep for light spinning he tried it at all times of the day even at midday and he SAID he caught fish too so it is worth to try and experiment
Fish can be caught all day. Yesterday I was spinning with 3g jig heads, with some Gary Yamamoto 2" Grubs and 4lb braid. Bottom bouncing them for whatever comes at 4pm and people swimming around me. Caught a few weaver fish ( after which some people around me decided not to go back in the water ) and even a small Xurghien. All rigorously Catch and Release!
Can you catch cervjol from land by spinning? By using which lures?
hello guys im new for this forum and for this type of fishing too. from june I caught some cudas with 15cm and 13cm. But these last 3 weeks i can t catch 1. wich size of lure is best for this time ?
thanks... LWS
thank all for your advice!
i will definitely give it a try...
by the way, can we also do deep bottom fishing with a spinning rod ? or is there a type rod which can do it both??
thanks

You can but don't expect St Peter to let you into heaven! That is a sacrilege.
Joke's apart, if you are spinning with a rod that is good for bottom fishing, I think you're using a rod that is too, heavy and stiff.
today or tomorrow i will be purchasing my spin rod...
what can you guys recommend? any particular rod? or what shall i keep in mind whilst buying a spin rod? the lenght? the weight? etc...
i appreciate your comments as always :)

be sure the rod is good for braid or it might ruin the guides, because i got a shimano alivo and now i found out its no good for braid(i asked at fishing frenzy) and choose a light one. a heavy one will get you tired easily. like you i'm still a beginer and i didn't know what to go for. take your time and choose the right equipment.
the Shakespeare ugly stick is a brilliant rod which enables good lifts from high rocks.
Also there's the Ron Thompson Thyran - lifting capability 10kgs while having a nice sensitive rod ideal for most fish around the island.

don't know from where you got this (or whoever told you) that the Alivio is not good for braid, I have been using it INTENSIVELY with braid for a couple of months now and there is nothing wrong yet with the guides.
And after all.... if the guides get ruined after a year or so, you simply throw the rod away... it's just €40 after all!!! heheheheh

I asked at fishing frenzy.Sry but I dont want to throw it away as I got as a present :)
If you are sure the alivio can withstand the braid its good news for me as I really like that rod.
fine setup but be aware of heights ....... you can not lift nice sized fish with that set up. Good for port and places where you can easily net the fish.
I would preferably go for a Thyran or Ugly Stick or something similar (solid tips) to enable lifts.
I definitely also recommend the Thyron when spinning from certain heights

sargos attent, ghax dawk it-tnejn ma jesportawx lejn malta.
what do you mean?
What he means is that if you go to the postage and payments tab there isn't listed Malta but post to UK. So in that case you might consider sending a message to the seller to check out re postage.
sargos- the shimano nexave 2500 is about 56 euros from malta. so be careful how much it's going to cost to buy it from e bay
thanks for drawing my attention guys... i will surely make a comparision before i purchase the kits.
GOOD BOY!! :) loool
