Fishing In Malta For A New Arrival

Hello everyone,
                       I would love some information to ensure I do the right thing when I arrive in Malta.  I plan on getting a boat and doing some fishing for a couple of months and would love to know what license I need to do this and to be able to sell some if I choose. Plan to go for some squid, octopus and fish within the 12 nm line.  What does the license cost etc and where would you sell excess catch so its not wasted? Market or direct to restaurants etc. Also what do i need to do to moor the boat in say Sliema and what are the rough costs?

Sub 100hp no licence required though I would advise you do the boat handling course as your insurance company may ask you to or refuse insurance.

You'd have to register MFB (Part time fisherman) to sell fish legally and I believe they are not currently giving out any permits.

Otherwise I would advise MFC if its a new boat....but S registration works at the moment as well.

You're not officially allowed to sell fish as a recreational fisher.....if someone gives you a donation for fuel in exchange for the fish could be a different matter.

Best to check on mma.gov.mt about annual boat license cost.

No idea of mooring fees, won't be easy finding a spot. Again contact the MMA (Malta Maritime Authority)

No limits in quantity - only size limits.
