hi, i recently got a rod, it's a banax black widow 5pc one, 2.7m in length with a casting weight of 100-300g....the reel is an okuma quadra QF-60 with a 4:5:1 ratio...any idea which fish this rod and reel are best used for?

SPITEC

The rod is a little bit short for the way we use the action 100-300.We use 100-300 range most for beach casting, cliff fishing and a little too long for boat bottom fishing.About the reel I don't know but someone will answer you forsure.

thanks...what does the 100-300 range (or any other range) mean, in practice?

SPITEC

100-300 means that the rod should be used with a weight of 100grams up to 300grams.For example if you are bottom fishing the lead should be not less than 100gr and not more than 300gr.

thanks again...can you help me out on this? the weights i usually see in tackle shops are marked in single digits e.g. 1, 1 1/2, 2, 5 and so on....how do these relate to, say a casting weight of 100-300grms?

SPITEC

When the weights are marked like that they are in ounces. All you have to do is change them from ounces to grams.

for my rod 150g - 300g i use 3,4,5  depending on the current, i prefer the number 3 when thers is no current.

in my opinion I found that, the heavier the weight, the bigger the chance to leave it as a free gift to the sea.

i've tried using the rod without any success... :( :( i have very little experience, and i have tried using a paternoster rig i.e. a weight (1.5-2) and a size 6 hook, with a rag worm or shrimp as bait....could it be that i am using the wrong tackle?

are there any rules on the length of the line from the swivel to the weight, and from the swivel to the hook?

my impression is that the rod does not reach out far enough to catch decent size fished...only tiny ones seem to swim close to the shore, like cawl etc....on the other hand, people do catch fish from the shore, so i must be doing it wrong.

SPITEC

The rod is toooooo heavy duty and short my friend if you aren't fishing from a boat.
