There's a simple explanation for not smelling like rotten fish in there mate, the stench is covered by the 2cm of diesel on the surface. Jokes apart, if you really want to fish over there, I think your better off with a bit of running float fishing using live shrimps  or maggots as bait, and try your luck for a nice bass.

Not more bass! I'll be trying to get away from them after the summer, they are in "plague" proportions over here during summertime, drop a live joey mackerel over the side & its either a bass or a tope that chomps it!
I have only ever caught one moray before & that tried to eat me, so I an looking forward to getting another.
Diesel? no problem, if it gets cold halfway through the night all we have to do is throw a fag end into the water, & warm ourselves by the fire!

Catching bass over here is a bit more complicated here, on the other hand catching morays is much less problematic and actually quite easy. No clue if there are morays at marsaxlokk but if you dont manage over there, go spend a night either at valletta near the break water or at cirkewwa and you should spend the night reeling them in.

I,ve seen an old Maltese guy catching a bagfull of small morays (approx 2 kilos each) opposite St Nazereth Church on Sliema seafront near the ferries. But I want a MONSTER.  :o  :o  :o
If you can't eat it don't kill it.

If you go during the week end nights you should see a guy who spends all the night there, actually near the pool, a fish for the morays. Once he got a baby shark.

bigboy

Guys you impress me :P You want to catch morays and myself whenever i catch one of them it makes me swear big time as i hate them grrrrrrrr. Nearly 2 months ago we caught around 12kg of them grrrrrrrrr

redbus9

Hi bigboy, whats the heaviest one you have caught ?
If you can't eat it don't kill it.

I would suggest to go Birzebbugia by the free port. Where there's the club (forgot exactely what kind of club though, but if not mistaken it's the sail boat club).

Another thing. I don't know fish names in English can somebody please translate Moray, Bass in Maltese.

SPITEC

FISHING IS THE BEST HOBBY AND IT'S GREAT FOR RELAXING

owenbullu

Thanks Spitec. And by the way BIGBOY don't complain about catching a lot of something as there are some of us (LIKE ME) who practically go home empty handed, as the fish that they (AND ME) catch are too small!!

bigboy

i complain because they make the fishing gear a complete disaster

owenbullu

Well you'd have a nice fish to compensate for the disaster no?

By the way do you have a pic of your boat BigBoy as I go spinning under "is-Sur" of St. Elmo and I think that I've seen you a couple of times passing? (though I never caught ANYTHING from there in regards to sninning)

What are we likely to catch by the Yacht Club? we think that the fish guts thrown in at Marsoxlokk will attract fish in at night to feed.
What do they throw in from the Yacht Club that is likely to attract fish? people who dont have yellow "wellies" maybe? lol
