Hi Ganni,

It's a valid point, the issue I'm afraid is having a location that is easily accessible by car with parking and at the same time good for boats to come in and wait to be weighed.

Logistically it's very hard to have two weight in finish points, whilst it would have been nice to have one up North as well, it is already a challenge trying to find 3 people to help out with the 1 finish location.

We are trying to accomodate people from different locations by having 3 different start points including one up North, and given how most people will troll for Alungi near or South of Filfla it then isn't very far to B'Bugia to finish.

I would then recommend going up the east coast to return home, especially as you can take on fuel if needed from M'Scala or the fuel barge near the AFM base.

The return distance is around 27km or just under 15nm from B'Bugia jetty back inside Xemija. 50km or 27nm would be all the way around the West Coast which is much longer.

For sure it would be nice to have a second finish point on the West Coast much further up north near the start point........but we would need another gazebo tent, weighing scales and at least 3 officials which I think will be hard to arrange?

Granitu

Thanks Granitu, would always be nice to have people come over as the competition nears an end :)

Good season so far.....

If I do not come with anyone on a boat for trolling I will be comming to help skip. I just need to confirm with a friend of mine for the boat. If not I am an officer 24 hours a day, and I can be that also for the competition.

P.S. What refreshments will we have vodka, tequila, and spanish dancers??? :P
Ear Pain aaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Kris, Have a look at the rules governing this competition.  There is no limit on the number of rods/lures that can be used.  here is the link, the are attached to the 1st post. :)

In my opinion i think there should be a limit... i mean, some boats can manage to troll 7 lines whilst other can only use 2-3 lines at once... thus resulting in an unfair advantage over the smaller boats... just my opinion..... :-\

Get a bigger boat!!! ;) :P :P :P

I disagree with you robby17 on boat size being the limiting factor for spreading out more then 2-3 rods/lures.  The Gaffer has a 10'2" transam (thats over 3 mtrs), and without the use of outriggers, you would only manage to troll 3 lures, thats one in the middle and one in each of the corners.  The deciding factor is outriggers.
I manage to deploy 5 lures in the spread with the use of outriggers.  There are a number of outriggers available for small boat setup.  So the size of the boat in this case is not a determining factor.

All national and international rules do not stipulate a rod/lure limit in Trolling tournaments

Robby taqlalix trouble mal gaffer pls :P

shanook

and another thing rob with 5 lures out in the water there is more chances of tangles, and with less lures u can make tighter turns.
There is another factor that effects the competition rather than number of rods its the boat speed. If u are fast u arrive before and leave after the others giving u more fishing time. but those are the rules and one has to either take them or leave them. Its a competition and one competes with what he has and make the most of it.
Good luck to all

The number of rods thing has come up in the past.....whilst it's true that The Gaffer can deploy the most number of rods, most likely he will still only be fishing with a total team of 4 including skipper. Only one person can be on a rod at any one time so even if he gets strikes on more you will most likely lose them as someone still has to be on the wheel.

Whilst more rods = more lures which means more of a surface commotion, smaller boats with less rods can use spreader bars and daisy chains to achieve a simialr effect whilst having less tangles and tigher turns as shanook pointed out.

This is a friendly competition between us all.......no league tables etc and if enough people feel that next year we need to ammend the rules or add things in we'll address that accordingly and taken them into consideration.

Btw last year DJS beat The Gaffer and he only had 4 rods out :) Well done Dave!!

By having 3 lines in the sea you can still catch a good ammount of fish ;)

I have no problems with larger boats deploying a lot of rods. If they have the space and equipment then why not. Come on guys this is only a friendly competition :)

I have in mind of having 3-4 lines in the water. Not more though.
