there are plenty of reasons why braid line get tangled or as it is known among spinning enthusiast have a bird's nest. The reasons can varies from a reel that is not suitable to take braid line, using too light tackle compared to the diameter of the braid, the braid is not laid properly on the spool. To avoid as much as possible having bird's nest I wax the braid, wax is odorless, is a solid lubricant and does not get washed by water by the way this is just my idea and never heard of anyone doing it but for me it worked perfectly. I manage to spin with 5gr lures easily using very light tackle and 0.12 mm Berkley fire line crystal braid. The best way to do it is to do it when you are loading the line the first time on the spool by passing the braid on a piece of wax while reeling. Another much easier method and commonly used among members of this forum is to every now and than spray the braid with silicone spray.

Silicone spray is a lubricant that helps to have very low friction you can buy it from any ironmongers. Most important does not smell does not leave oily residual on your line.

My 2 cents on braided line:

a. Use a good brand line, a Dyneema or spectra line is best.

b. Use the thinnest line you can afford (dare ) to use.

c. Lubricate the line with Silicone the first time you spool it on the reel, and wash it every 2 to 3 outings, by dipping the Spool in luke warm (drinking or better still, distilled) water. Leave it there for an hour, then let it dry and re-lubricate it.

d. Make sure your reel can take braided lines, and above all if you are trying to spin with a 14g lure, using a 20-50g rod, spooled with 30lb braid ... you're just asking for a bird's nest!
