Hi, I was wonder if these 4kg+ mullets can go for them with a rod? Even, had any one tried bottom line fishing for mullets?

yes you can emic. th best days for mullet are sept to dec. either you use farka or the laham tas sega if yu are fishing in open waters. i tried it several times and sometimes i had success

The farka i don't know how but i use to fish with meat. I do some trys. Thanks

go to the ksfa malta website they have an excellent explanation how to do  the farka. make sure that if you use the farka there is no vopi present as it may well became a total fluke bait as it is easily eaten fro  the hook. else it s really the type of bait appropiate for mullet

hi my friend.

i occasionaly fish the mullet on pater noster rig in bottom.

it's a fun guaranteed fishing method if u intend to catch the big mullets on the deep.

i try this method in deep waters (7-15mtrs). ideally is fishing underneath you from boat.

one must be very careful for small movements on the rod tip. Also reflexes should be at your utmost when fishing this methos as mullets tend to give very bites and as explained before must be identified by small moves on the tips of the rod.

even I didnt understand well the Farka but will try. I go there just to relax. Fish I can get as much as I want with my baby (speargun). 1st I will try from land as I know 2 good places, I take some beer and some fish with me and as I will be waiting maybe I hook somthing we will be having a relax day. Then if it doesn't work, I try from the boat.

I like the paternoster system cos used to fish a lot and got good reslts in the past.

What hook do you suggest and what line?

Wait I found it here:

Get some nice bread preferably curly bread (fancy).
Put bread in some luke warm water till bread is full of water (mifquh) - 5-7mins
then put bread in cold water for just 30secs.
Pull out bread and soak well. Remove as much water as you can .
Preferably put farka overnight in a fridge.

I had read somewhere that you add a bit of anisette to the mix

and for the anessete is better to mix it with the coffee or you want to get the fish druged up

what i fourd that really works for mullet is milk. trust me doing farka with some mill will do wonders. it is for the factthat mullet loves high protein food(bread and milk are high protein food, so is the laham tas sega). the best thing to do is to fish with a running float system as it is much better for mullet. the paternoster rig is for bottom fishing emic. or else just a fixed float system.
and you may need to do some ground Bait to attract mullet.

Normally i see them in caves and for that reason i said that might use the paternoster system. Yes on that site i had also read about milk but there wasn't an esclamation for what they use milk. Good job my friends. Hope I success.


At the moment malta is full of mullets so wish yo see others to try.
