hi i have been kayaking for around 1 year, and have just started to add kayak fishing...i have no fishing experience. i tried trolling with a hook and line...but caught nothing...even added up losing hook and weights! any ideas?

you'll need a small fishing rod with a small handy reel like those used in ice fishing!

preferably you'll have a rod holder.

as tackle you can use a small white lure on 0.25mm line.

i would love to try it out! look out for some videos on you tube.
the fishing gods might have something for me tomorrow I'll be fishing

thanks for your reply? why do i need a rod? i see boats trolling with just a line? thanks for the patience...

SPITEC

You need a rod because since you will be paddling you can't hold the line in your hands.

thanks...i apologise for my ignorance, but why is it important to hold the line in hand?

you have to retrieve the line otherwise its gets tangled up since there is not much space on the kayak. On a boat one can roll back everthing and put it to one side. its ok that way unless you drop somthing on it cause than you start the lace course  :D

ok thanks, i see the point,  but is that the reason why i am not catching fish?

SPITEC

You have to hold the line in your hands to feel the bite of the fish and start retreiving.Might be the reason why you are not catching and even the way you are equiped.I would suggest a small grub or small lure.

about kayak fishing, what is the ideal kayak used, sit on kayak or the ones you sit in it? and what is the ideal length ?thanks
The Sea Sweeper :D

sg

there are fishing kayaks, which are built for that purpose, but they are sit on top and may be more suited for fishing in lakes than in choppy waters....a sea kayak (sit-in) in better for the sea....the longer the better as it provides more stability. it is important to get one which has both front and back storage/hatches.

i have a 16 foot sit in fiberglass kayak with both front and back hatches.is you want send me your email and i will send you some pics
