Now, I know this may seem as a stupid question, but I am going to ask it anyway.

I am used to the fishing technique abroad, and they like basically using worms.

Now in Malta alot of different types are used.

Can somebody explain the different types that can be used and the difference between them. Can the normal 'worm' be purchased in Malta?

And as well what is the most cost effective one to purchase.

I know for sure there are alot of experienced guys out there that would like to share ther knowledge. :)

Maybe even post a pix to help out o the bait

Intermilan I think I know what you mean, here in the UK we use different worms for sea fishing, ragworms & lugworms.
Ragworms are the worms that you know as "Korea worm", we get 2 types of ragworm, "Harbour Ragworm" which grow to about 8cm, (similar to Korea worm), & "King ragworm" which grow up to 30cm, the "King ragworm" is successfully being bred in captivity, which means that we no longer have the seasonal shortages we used to have when winter stopped the diggers going out. >:(
Lugworm comes in 2 varieties, "Black lug" which lives at the extreme low water mark & below, & "blow lug" which lives in the sand up to the high water mark, both of these are very popular, & because of their difficultly to dig/pump, black lugworm are more expensive to buy. :o
The main difference between these species is their blood chemistry, ragworm blood is compised largely of copper, whilst lugworm blood consists of mainly haemoglobin, (which is why many feel it is a superior bait to ragworm).
If by "normal worm" you mean lugworm, then without any tidal movement worth talking about in the Med, I doubt that it occurs anywhere, similarly with ragworm, because the tide doesn't go out to expose the sand/mud, then the chances of digging/pumping any worm would seem remote, hence any worm you have in Malta would need to be imported.
Perhaps there are sandworms in your waters, & all it needs is an entrepreneur to find a way of dredging them up for sale! :D

Any local advice on this subject?

In a very small nutshell

Korean worm used for reel and rod fishing mainly, most of the fish I know of can be cought with this worm during the day. I use this worm mainly when fishing on sandy or muddy bottoms using running leadger rig.

American worm, a bit bigger than the korean can be used during the night.

"Ta l'imperial" Is a huge worm 2ft+ anything can be cought on this bait, best used when night fishing with paternoster rig (my favourite bait)

Bibi worm, there are small ones which usually are alive and there are the big ones which usually u buy them frozen, Personally i dont like this bait much, others say it's good but have no other information about it.

All the above are easily found in malta at any fishing store.

Hope this helps

Thanks guys,
My problem is that when I buy the worms I need them for the next day or 2 days after, which one lasts longer, or should I just try to buy the frozen ones?

For your needs inter 0-1  milan I would suggest Korean worms.Good explenation Freeman ;)

I had a box of bibi which lasted for a week, dont know if they live longer :D
Fishing, fishing ,fishing thats all i think about.

For some reason I was never a fanof bibi, yesterday however we had a box and I was fishing with it. I was having good strikes same as the other 2 who where with me which where using tal korea. The thing that i liked tough is that the bibi is much stronger than tal korea and I didn't even use the whole box, plus it's a hell of a lot easier to hook it using the needle. All in all I must say that from now on bibi is gona be my fist choice when bottom fishing from boat.
