As some of you may have read, record holder in finswimming and US athelete winner at the 1998 freediving world cup, Peppo Biscarini is currently in Malta for a couple of days. He's out spearfishing with Emic and SimonG today and we intend to meet up for dinner with him Wednesday evening, to exchange stories, hear some of his experiences and a general chat. Peppo has been freediving and spearfishing since he was 10 and he is joined by his 16 year old son who started at aged 8.

He's specialises in Bluewater spear fishing something which I know some people have been interested in locally, but that requires special equipment and techniques, something that perhaps Peppo can enlighten you on. He's also a freelance writer for Pescasub when he finds the time.

As Peppo is staying in Mellieha we will be looking for a venue in the general area, aiming to meet up at 8pm.

I was thinking of the Maritim Antonine Hotel in Mellieha as it has a very reasonably priced Pizza and Pasta restaurant, or there is a small similar type of place next to the PN club that does, Pizza, pasta etc.

If anyone is interested in coming along, reply to this post. I know it's short notice. Emic/SimonG were supposed to be messaging some people.

Seems like the venue will shift somewhere central as Peppo has rented a car. Will discuss with Emic/SimonG but either Mamma Mia, or Hugo's Paceville was also suggested.

Hey uys, just back. We woke up at 6.30am and waked up each other with a phone call. At 7am met Giovanni and at &.30am meet Simon G at Xamxija. The sea was doing NE so decided to try Papay till Id DElli area. Went for Peppe at the Hotel and in 5 mins where by the shore.

We talked for a bi and considered the working depth w can do. Just some filming by giovanni and ready in water. We where in 5, Giovanni, Simon G, peppe, his son and I. The sea was good but no current and no fish around. s of small groupers around but their mum wasn t there.  >:( >:(

The fish we saw where few seabream, tumbrel (small tunas), 1kg ajs, mullets and red mukllets.

We didn t done any special catch although we really tried for a dentex or a grouper.

At 3pm we where back anddiscussed for an open water dive. Also due the type of kitchen Giovannu cooks Peppe is very looking farward for some Thai food. We enjoyed talking with them and as for us we where at normal temperature they where feeling hot  :o :o

Tommorow we r going to meet up at Hugoes so that even Giovanni can be present. Tomorrow morning, Giovanni will be trying to take them for  morning dive in the north.

It s a very good experiance even much more with a perso like Peppe, when we where heading back while finning he rised his head trying to look around for one of our boe far from us. He s really a power full guy and his son is not less.

guys since I am not familiar with your site yet and I am pressed for time..I am responding on this section hoping it will reach the right people. I have to say first of all that I was deeply touched by your hospitality, organization, care and smiles. You guys are FANTASTIC and do not let anyone else tell you differntly. I have fished many waters all over the world and you guys rank at the top (though the fishing is very questionable...). Thank you Skip for putting me in touch with everyone; Thanks Edo for lining up the dives and even coming to the airport to say goodbye..u r gr8; thanks Giovanni for taking us around and showing us some of the spots; thank you Manuel for the boat ride and the shop "tour";thanks Simon for joining in with us; and for those who came to the restaurant, thanks you for showing up though we were not able to talk stories with everyone since the noise level was high. Boy I feel like at night at the Emmy's awards....Anyways I would like to help, within my possibilities with informations on training (I left some with Edo), contacts etc. Even If you guys want to organize an intl. invitational meet I would like to help.  I need to figure out how to post pix. I while back I started a site bc many people asked me to post pix, film, data etc, but my time has been ltd. YOu can see some on biscarini.com or join facebook and look me up. I got to run now for a flight to barcelona.Talk to you soon. ciao ;)

Ciao peppo.
Nice meeting you mate. Sorry but was impossible for me to join you for the dives. Thanks for you compliments towards us, and since that you know that training here locally is very limited, any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. We try to do our best to keep our community reunite, and practice this sport in a friendly environment, and also organise some meeting every now and then.
Was an honour for us having you here.

Regards silvio.

Hi Peppo, thanks for your kind words towards everyone, as you can see the fishing is pretty tough locally compared to many other countries, meaning these guys have to be at the top of their game to be successful. Hopefully with some training routines that you can provide they can be further helped and maybe one day it would be nice to organise a Malta Fishing Forum trip (spearfishing holiday) somewhere that has very productive waters.

Regards,

Nick
