Hi, any suggestions about how to really take care of rod guides?.....i shower them with fresh water after fishing but after some time theyu still tend to corrode (especially on light tackle) and eventually break....is there something one can do?

After showering them with water, you still ideally need to dry them up. Compressed air works best for this but if you don't have that handy, blow like hell from your mouth and then rub with a cloth that has been impregnated with lubricating oil like WD40 etc.

The biggest problem not just for rod guides but also reels is the way salt gets in to the tiny crevices. Salt X or a similar product is supposed to be good, and then rinse with fresh water and do the above. Especially important to re-lubricate as I believe Salt X removes oil protection.

If they are roller guides add some drops of medium lubricating oil. The quality of the guides makes a difference as well. More expensive rods have better guides, reel seats, butts etc.

buy mitchell rods my friend! I come to a conclusion they are the best against corrosion, as they look the best amongst my rods in my garage!

i use SALTAWAY a product i use for my outboards. I got the product from that boat shop near Crosscraft just off the Qormi Bypass (near pont tal-Pepsi)

the fishing gods might have something for me tomorrow I'll be fishing
