Thanks for the info and clarification, it's nice to be kept in the loop especially about important issues such as parts pricing, availability and stock information.

Happy to report that I can give a thumbs up to the 90 TLDI and join the others who have given it their blessing. It ran flawlessly on Sunday after rectifying a small issue I had which you can read about here http://maltafishingforum.com/talk/index.php?topic=433.msg21172#msg21172 to avoid double posting.

Is it normally so expensive to do a service to a 4 stroke marine outboard?
Today I took my rib for a normal service and I was charged 300 euro!!! I was amazed....
Changed all filters and oils and plugs and racor and impeller and some setting here and there!!!!!!!!!!!!

@Kaptan Jr - Whoever I spoke to or asked advices about Tohatsu, no one gave me the impression that they are bad engines. On the contrary - I always received very good feedback. The only problem is, as always, from whom to buy them  Wink

@Destination Sea - Ian, my ETEC is a 50HP as you already know and very, very economical. Runs very smoothly and has loads of power when out of the hole. Trolled for long hours at very slow speeds without any trouble. I believe you have an ETEC as well or am I mistaken. If so, why don't you go for another one if you were always satisfied with it's performance.

As Skip always like to say and which is always running in my mind is - BUY THE SELLER NOT THE BRAND.

it's the setting here and there that takes time. Were any of your timing belts changed?

The Johnson autboard that Baghira has was manufactured from Johnson with a Suzuki engine and they don't have timing belt but self adjusting timing chain.

Baghira pls correct me if I'm wrong.

My Suzuki DF140 is serviced directly by the agent, Dominic of Zarb Stores and for the last service which was the most expensive so far, I was charged EUR190. This included oil changing, both gear oil and engine oil, changing of fuel and oil filters and also the changing of zinc anodes (not sure whether 2 or 3). The service was also carried out on the spot.
What struck me most was that during the alungi competition, at one time after leaving the Marfa pier, my engine went into safe mode. During the service (5 months after this event) I asked Dominic what could have happened. He replied we'll easily know! He connected his laptop to my engine and voila, the fault was recorded by the engine - a temporary over heat kicked in safe mode! Could have been a bag or something at the water intake....
While at it, through the laptop Dominic also carried out loads of diagnostic tests like valve opening and closing, parameters etc.. and I must admit I was quite impressed.

I really do not know charlo whether there is any timing belt or not.!!
This time I replaced engine oil, oil filter, fuel filter, gear oil, racor, spark plugs, impeller, 1 small clip, and setting of push and pull, and grease.

Yes charlo he did and the prices are correct, same as from the agent.
I simply think he charged me a bit too much for the labour, and as for the parts, next time I will buy them in advance for 1/3 price from the net.
