I am moving to the rock in May. I will post on here how I get on fly fishing in Malta. Should be interesting!

Hallo,
I am a flyfisher from Germany and will be the next week on Gozo, at Xlendi Beach. Do you guys have any advice for me? Maybe somebody likes to join me and we can have a nice day at the water or share a boat for fishing? I have heard that the reef in front of Xlendi should not be so bad. Is that true and came some fishes into the bay? By dusk or by dawn?
Thank you in advance for your replies. In return I will share my casting experience if we meet.

Greetings

white trout flies will do great  :-*there is a nice shoal of barracudas around that piece of rock you mentioned but it is a hot spot for divers ....... you can also have some fun inside swimming zone but beware of people swimming in the area ..... try also the floating bread fly if you ever used it maybe good for some mullets inside the swimming zone just under the Churcill Restaurant in the corner .... best time is when people are leaving the bay from swimming ...... at night the bay is clear and you can fish ..... you can see some big predators lurking around in the lights in shallow waters ... have fun and enjoy .... the place is so relaxing
the fishing gods might have something for me tomorrow I'll be fishing

As far as I know, one cannot fish inside swimming zones, but I stand to be corrected.

I have recently moved to Sliema, and want to go flyfishing for barracudas next week. Anyone that have some advice on places to go, colors/size on flies, etc? Thanks!

Flyfishing for Barracuda is quite common in the Bahamas, can't see why it should not work here.

Ruzett

The type of barracuda in the Bahamas is different from the one we have here in Malta. Their feeding methods are different too, here they don't usually jump out of the water to catch something but rather prey on small fish a small distance under the water's surface.

HC

That is actually the same way the bahamian cudas are feeding. They neither jump out of the water to feed.

Ruzett

OK then, but I'd rather stick to feather lures from the boat and plastic lures from land.
