Both Skip and myself have a LMS-527. I just installed mine recently so I don't have much experience using it. Skip will be able to give you better feedback. What I can say is that Lowrance are one of the reliable brands. A great advantage with Lowrance is that they manufacture many sensors/extras you can add to the GPS like fuel flow sensors, temperature sensors etc. I even managed to connect my engine to it and the GPS displays all the data from the engine.
