Does anyone know maximum time you can keep tumbrell in freeze for bait.

Dont keep it too long, i think after 1-2 months it starts becoming fragile. when it defrosts the meat will become very soft and disintegrate, when cutting it to hook it up always fillet it and cut the fillets into strips. Time Important thing is to leave the skin because that is the only part keeping the meet together ;).

2 months @ the max!! and tbh its not really all that good after that long!!
I know its stating the obvious ,but if you can get hold of the freshest bait possible when you go fishing it's always the best way to go! :)

1. In which part of the year is fresh tumbrell available?
2. Does the texture preserve better if spinkled with salt before freezing?

1.Should start around mid/end of december & usually (no that anything is usual about the sea anymore) till around april.heres a link for a fishing calendar on this forum.

2.I suppose packing strips of tumbrell in salt probably would improve the texture....never actually tried it though!

Saltinf fish is better for the texture in my opinion.  But I do not think it seems that fresh.

Best technique.

Wake up early.  Fish for clamari catch a few use as bait and haul in Aj's.   ;D
