There are several ways how to hook a crab for bait. One of them is by ripping off legs and claws pull of the back and you end up with a squarish peice of white meat, usually I use this method when fishing from land with a pole or running float, If I end up with some left overs I freeze them to use them in my next fishing session. I crash the remaining peices (legs, backs and claws) and use them in my ground bait (ghalf).  To use them alive I just crash the back without killing the crab and remove the claws. They are one of my favorite bait for deep sea fishing.

I never fished at night with crabs, for night fishing I prefer "hniex ta l-imperjal" but I guess one can try especially with live crabs.
