Went out with our sailing boat on Hurd's Bank last Saturday at around 5:30am with my dad & Rio. Just off the Xrobb L-Ghagin tuna pens, there were loads of kavalli feeding at the surface (& loads of small boats criss-crossing each other). We landed a few, however they were quite small, only good as bait, so we decided to head further out & try our luck for something better. Caught a few tunnaggi on the way out then at around 20 miles offshore we caught our 3 lampuki. We expected to encounter more lampuki & were somewhat disappointed - not get a single bite around the FADs, only encountered 2 small "shoals" in the waters surrounding an anchored ship. No massive feeding shoals out there, just a few turtles and one swordfish. My father lost what must have been a biggish lampuka, at around 3 meters from the boat, probably due to a combination of our 0.50mm leader being somewhat damaged & due to heavy handling on his part. We began retracing our trip at around noon and did not get a single bite till 4pm which is when we arrived back at the marina. Was anyone else trying his luck for lampuki & tunnaggi this weekend? What was the experience like?
