why ohh why cant the tree hugging green looneys go home and sort their own countrys out before they decide to pick on a small country like Malta. in particular the USA, the filth and rubbish that their Automobiles spew into the atmosphere would sink Malta with out trace, they were the first bunch of hypocrits to refuse to sign up for the KYOTO agreements, and as far as the tuna fishing goes, just look at the catches from the american tuna boats what the maltese fishermen catch would probably be caught in one day.Add onto that what the italians, spanish, and the rest of the EU pirates take out of the med the Maltese quota is totally insignificant,  But Malta is a tiny island with out the finacial clout that the so called sister nations of the EU.

What a magnificant piece of writing noztheviking.  Couldn't have been said better.   What's more, according to the Maltese Authorities, if Maltese fishermen had not taken the initiative way back in 1993 and 1994 and registered with the ICCAT, we'd be left willy whistling for the 260Ton Bluefin Tuna yearly quota which Malta was alloted this year.  I am informed that countries such as Lebanon, Egypt and other Mediterranean boardering countries are only alloted a quota of 50Tons.  Now whether they adhere to that quota is a totally different matter.  A moratorium should be imposed with immediate effect on fishing for BFT using Purse Sieners.  The vast ammounts of BFT caught using this system is seriously jeopardising the sustainability of BFT stocks in the Mediterranean.

Check out the online video on the times online.  However harrowing the scenes, I still think Greenpeace have no right to board a vessel without permission.
http://www.timesofmalta.com/articles/view/20090622/local/greenpeace-activists-block-fishing-boats

Also, the report says that the activists are from the USA, UK, Australia and the Lebanon.  They should really start with curbing the atrocities of overfishing in their respective homelands.  I'm all for responsible fishing and conservation, but this is well over the limits.  The Authorities have to take a stand.  NOW!!!!.  This video released by greenpeace will hurt Malta big time.  It is the local authorities who should take a stand, inspect the boats and if in default, take appropriate action within the law.  Boarding a vessel without permission consitutes piracy.

Still hot from the Press Board:NO ILLEGAL TUNA FOUND

The Fisheries Department in a statement in the afternoon said that the boats had not been carrying any illegal tuna. The department said it was improving its administrative capacity through the engagement of more inspectors and over the past few days it acted to ensure that the national tuna quota was respected.

In the jokes section there is a joke by ROBBY017 the final paragraph of this joke is absolutely bang on in this situation  when governments allow all and sundry to enter their country and start dictating left right and centre what they should be doing, when their own countries are creating more havoc and devastation to the natural state of the world. If the fishermen of Malta were to try and do this in any of the countries whose nationals were involved in this, under the banner of greenpeace, They would be feeling the long arm of the law used against them !!!!! as for using force to remove them from the boats this was justified, the same as removing someone who forcibley enters your home or bussiness. A smart kick in the pants should see them on there way, if that does not work then a little bit of peruasion may be gently applied, if you know what I mean.

If green peace broke the law, the shipping master should throw them out of the Grand harbour.
And after all the bad publicity, I hope nobody sell them any supplies.

Errr if you read the article in the paper properly, it wasn't a Maltese boat they were trying to board, it was a Spanish boat which they believed had been catching tuna illegally. When the police searched the boat later, it was found that they were not carrying any illegal tuna.
Now the Spanish have never been known to offload onto a sister boat if they intend/forced to enter somewhere not their home port? They do it in UK waters on a regular basis with bass, if they have to make a landing they offload their bass onto a sister ship before making port, saves a lot of arkward questions having to be answered if they are boarded, even if the fish were caught outside the 12mile limit.

sorry blueskip but spanish italian, russian, german french, belgium dutch, in fact any one barring BRITISH fishing boats do not have to off load undersze or over quota fish in a british port since Blair and Brown betrayed their own fishing industry and sold them out to the so called european fishing policy quotas that should have gone to british and scotch boats were given away to other EU countries with the blessings of a so called labour government ask any of the scottish fishermen who ended up unemployed and jobless through the decimation of the fishing industry. and just a side we are continually being told by government expert about the dire situation with north sea cod stocks dissappearing. But how come the recreational fishermen like you and I are having an absolutely cracking year with the cod fishing in the north sea. Not with small codling but with record size 20 -30 -40  pound fish these are not last years young but healthy mature fish, Also Norway is at the moment advertising in the english angling papers to come and catch your self a record cod, whiting, ling, they have no problems with their cod stocks. but there again they dont have any tom dick or harry pair trawling everything in the sea and turning it into fertiliser to put onto fields
