There are other species fish and crustaceans that although they are not protected they are under control. Like lobsters etc. I will check about these.

Arti, if the creature has died or left the shell for perhaps a bigger one, may the shell be kept.... Huh

I think the animal is protected not the empty shell. If left it may be broken with the rough sea current so I think if I keep the shell I am not doing any harm.

Are all there found around Malta?
And are you permitted to take sea urchins (Ritzi)?
I remember as a kid we use to take bucket loads to eat on the rocks and discard the shells as berley while my grand father use to fish with his cane pole...good memories. Grin

It is also important to note that THE GREAT WHITE SHARK (Carcharodon carcharias) and THE BASKING SHARK (Cetorhinus maximus) along with THE DEVIL RAY (Mobula mobular) are listed as PROTECTED Species here in MALTA together with tortoise
