Hello everyone,

Myself and 3 friends are visiting Malta in early May and we'd love to go out sea fishing for a day. I emailed a fishing charters place online and they quoted me 400 euros for the day! That's more than we're paying for our accommodation for the week!

I was wondering if anyone had any advice for me. Apologies my fishing terminology is fairly limited! We've all fished in lakes/rivers at home (England) but the idea of going out on a boat in the med is very appealing.

Thanks for your time

Joe

there should be more than enough to take you out during that time as a lot of people start launching there boats. Do you want to try bottom fishing, jigging or trolling. Bottom fishing you have a certainty of catching some fish although small. trolling well 50% and jigging 15% chance.
Where will you be staying in Malta. A post closer to your holiday will help

Hi Shanook,

Thanks for the reply. We're staying in an apartment in Swieqi, St.Julians but are more than happy to travel around the island. We're arriving on the 5th May for one week. Not sure which type of fishing to go for really, what would you recommend for a day trip in early May? Is it possible to do two types on one trip?

Thank-you

Do u intend to spend a whole day on the boat? A spot of bottom fishing is cool to have a few beers and a snack, relaxing. trolling u have the engine and the boat continuosly on the move. If you were coming in June/july than trolling for Alungi would have been nice.
Yes you can do both of course.......

Yes I think for the whole day. That sounds perfect actually, some bottom fishing and a couple of chilled beers. Do you know how I might organise something like that before we go, or would it be best to wait until we're there? Thanks for your help!

its a bit early but since the post is here lots of people will see it and probably offer their service. If not give it some more time and revamp this thread as a reminder. lots of people have their boat on the hard.
