Hi Guys,

A mate and I have decided to take up fishing as a hobby on the island but need some more pointers. We have so far tried the following trips and have yet to catch a fish between us:
Black Pearl, 6am, Bait: Worms
Forestals, 6am, Bait: Worms
Cirkewwa, 6am, Metal Lures
Fortina, 6am, Metal Lures
Fortina, 1pm, Metal Lures

Setup=Casting rods.

Needless to say we have got through quite alot of beer over the last week during these trips but have began to get, erm, dissappointed? The other fisherman in the area seem to have come up dry aswell.

Our next attempt is scheduled for 6pm next Thursday.
Can anyone suggest a good spot at this time and if we should be using bait or lures? We can go anywhere on the island =)

Thanks to all in advanced =)

The reason why you'r not catching anything is simple.
Location is the reason..
If you ever want to suceed in catching a couple of fish you have to go and explore and find places of your own and all over the island not just on one side.
No one will tell you from where he is catching fish!

I think it also depends on what fish you're targeting. If you're spinning then go on the East coast and there are a few spinning threads for guidance. Haven't seen anyone mentioning catching barracuda from the ports at the moment.

Shore Fishing
(Courtesy of Charles Caruana - President KSFA Malta)
Light tackle spinning rod and reel
Line Diameter 0.14-0.18mm Small Hooks (size 8 common) and Weights
Floats as required depending whether bottom fishing or float fishing
Pole Fishing 7-8m rod
Long Keep Net
Pater Noster (Rocky Bottom) and Running Ledger Rigs (Sandy Bottom), Running Float
Recommended bait: Cray Fish (xkal) available on order from fish shops, or various worms found from tackle shops, bread can be added to the above bait.

Thanks a ton all for the tips.. Fishing is not something I plan to give up on, ever. It seems like such a nice relaxing way to get away from everything and unwind. Infact even after my 5 dry sessions this week, I plan to go out tonight and give it a shot.. Most likely from midnight to 4 or so.. I have a slot where I can get away Smiley Wish me luck.. ill be sure to post my results.

Any tips on where to go around those times? I have a tub full of live worms which i cant let go to waste, oh and i cant wait until Thursday to give it another shot! Smiley The setup I have with me right now will only allow for bottom fishing, 2 medium sized hooks and a bit weight on the bottom.

Cheers in advanced!

It is not the best time for fishing from land but the best thing to do if you are bottom fishing at night just don't go where you see other people fishing try to explore new areas and most of all use the lightest tackle and line possible because lot of fish around our coasts are very shine at biting.Goodluck.
