have a 30/50 Lineaeffe Gold Coloured which aside from failing the first time it was used (and then repaired by Pirotta) seems to be okay since. Very cost effective reel, in the level drag type. Doesn't have the loudest alarm in the world but not bad.

In the 30lbs class I would even consider a reel with a level winder, I have a couple of Penn Commander 30's, its true they are star drag which I don't like too much, but they have excellent level winder's to keep your reel neat, the loudest alarm around and are well priced.

Then its up from there, varios other Penn's, and then Shimano's costing much more

ok what do you intend doing eg trolling or bottom fishing
and for what ? eg if you are going for lampuki, tunnagg, barracuda, amberjack, plamti, kubrit etc etc a 12lb rod is enough
if you are going for bigger game eg tuna, swordfish, sharks etc etc you will need a much bigger and stronger rod and reel (top quality prefered)

Hi Digger,

Last week I was at Mr Fish of Fgura and they had an offer on a rod+reel+line that would be enough for what you need. It was about Lm30/35. I also intend to buy one to go for plamti etc ,but would like to know better about the quality since I am myself a beginner. Has anyone seen the rod+reel I am speaking about? If yes,can anyone post some feedback with regards to the quality of this gear.
