bahri, I would keep in mind the following.

Consider the seasonal factor when selling a boat particularly when they have a small retail value. If you sell a fully working boat at may - june - july it is likely to fetch a better price since weather mostly permits to enjoy your boat in times like this.

Even if fully operational, during this period, the boat is likely to fetch a lower price because of the following reasons:
The motor is likely to need a service before the season (it may stall because of no use)
The boat will likely be stored somewhere and whoever gets it will compromise that storage space
There are a lot of boats for sale during this period (supply is higher than demand)
People have significant expenses during this period.
and many other factors (like he/she will not enjoy it immediatley)

When pricing a boat, consider a price, and mark it up by 5% to 20% - set this as the negotiation range. We Maltese like discounts and bargaining and a likely discount will increase the chance of selling your boat. Psycologically people will prefer your boat when you show that you are more willing to find a compromise - but do set your limits

And, more importantly, do not price your boat higher than what it has costed you. Boats do incur depreciation and only a jackass buys a boat for a price higher than cost, unless he is buying from an agent or an outlet.

Generally the resale-ability of a boat is a function of price (i.e. the lower the price the more chance of selling your boat) amongst others like age, condition and sea worthiness

hope it helps,
Nicholas

Good season so far.....

Thanks for that Nic - extermely useful and helpful input.

In reply to a previous thread about why I am selling basically I just bought a sailing boat and unlikely that I will use the bahri much although not about to give up my fishing!
