I was thinking of going to blata this weekend (by boat). I was thinking of going jigging? is it any good or should I stick to trawling, bottom fishing, ? any suggestions of what I should be trying to catch? I do not have a fish finder how far out should I go?
I have been out of the water since summer and want to make this a good fishing day so please help me.

That mentality i dont like ''dont take it personally'' but you cant really go on a fishing trip after so much time and expect to catch. Yes the place is good for jigging but it doesnt mean that it's a sure catch..try your luck maybe the current will get you on a school of dentex who knows!

If you've got the time and equipment why not gear up for more than one type of fishing so if jigging isn't productive you can switch to bottom fishing or trolling.....for jigging its not such a question of how far out but rather the depth of the water and structure below you (flat bottom, drop offs etc) this is where a fish finder comes in handy.

You can go out on several jigging trips and not come back with anything substancial but that's fishing.

If you go frequently, you just take your jigging rod and that's it no time to waste on other stuff (If you'r in to jigging) but if you go once in a while it's nice to catch something to take home with you so people take other equipment to try different methods (ex: bottom fishing) so that they at least catch something the once they go.
The problem is that if you want to catch something with jigging, trolling etc you just have to stick to that and not try to incorporate several fishing methods in your trip.
The only thing i can tell you is if your going to the west coast stick to the rocks and dont venture far out since the sea get's very deep only a little far out of land and when it get's very deep your chances are of being on sand, mud etccetc..

maybe when you become lapsiman you will see that with all good will you cannot find enough time for everything... so somethings have to become part time :) anyway i will start jigging and switch after i get tired... very quickly. thanks for the tips to all

Jigging without a fishfinder is even less productive.

Today was my fist day jigging.
Hahahaha ;D
Tried several spots along the east coast with my fishfinder which did not prove to be productive, or I don't know how to jig exactly, or maybe current and type of jig used..
Then I went by the fishfarm and I had a hit immediately.............Upps the rope of the bouys...bye bye jig,,bye bye flouro and some of the braid... ;D ;D ;Dohhhhhhhhhhhhh that's 25 euro gone.....

Luckily enough I was able to tie the knot with the braid again and there I was struggling me and my friend seahunter...with another porr jig......
At the end we happened to catch 3 tragni and 3 sawt....beside a couple of others whom fell off.....
Well enjoyed the day at least....
Maybe better luck next time....

I think I will be needing a better gps and fishfinder...
I do not beleive the accuracy of my eagle cuda 168
