Rock fishing is bottom fishing. That's what i think and my search on google has shown that rock fishing is actually using a paternoster or running ledger to target bottom dwelling fish...better know as bottom fishing for some

rock fishing is an evolution of bottom fishing... but as a matter of fact it is not the same as bottom fishing.

The equipment and tackle for rock fishing are to be heavier than those for bottom fishing. In fact nowadays rock fishing shares the equipment with surfcasting rather than with bottom fishing.

Terminal tackle, same as for that used in surfcasting is also on the heavier side.

Rockfishing especially in Malta is independent of location/spot but more dependant on equipment set-up. What I mean is you can deploy your rockfishing equipment in a particular spot inside the harbour.

Due to the heavier tackle, chunkier/larger baits are used. As a matter of fact, honestly, do you see a korean worm on a 2/0 hook??

Many prefer live baits on their rock fishing tackle, my personal favourite is live mullett (bobin) or bogue.

Further to what I've said rock fishing can also be practiced with floats targeting surface fish such as Serra or Accola.

well, so basically we are disagreeing just on bait..... personally i wouldn't bait korean on those sizes of hooks.

:) The sad truth is that the situation in malta is very bad and you can have the best bait in the world but still wont catch if there's no fish ! Especially this MONTH what a waste of bait ..anzi kultant inlaqtu huta

very awesome !..
I dont know the reason for that ''reel/winch'' why it isn't mounted on the rod. Maybe because there are extreme depths which a normal reel cannot fish at? Or maybe they use it to lift the fish from the surface to the are they are fishing from? i  dont know but they're good at what they do !
